Rolling Over Retirement Accounts/Funds

Can I roll over or transfer retirement dollars into my Rocket Dollar Self-Directed IRA or Self-Directed Solo 401(k) checkbook account? How do I do it?

Yes. and you can request a rollover transfer with the Rocket Dollar customer dashboard for an IRA. Be sure to track down and upload old statements if needed. The 401(k) transfer tool is coming soon to the RD Dashboard.

When can I start funding my Self-Directed IRA?

Transfer and funding portal tools become available on app.rocketdollar.com/login once your IRA LLC is ready after you have already purchased an account and started fulfillment. Our support team will reach out once the feature goes live in your account.

A Self-Directed IRA can be funded with new contributions from current taxable income, a transfer from another IRA (trustee-to-trustee transfer), or as a rollover from an old employer 401(k). Right now, it is not advised to do a Roth Conversion on the Rocket Dollar platform unless you pay for both a traditional IRA and Roth IRA account setup. Roth IRAs can receive Roth IRAs or old 401(k) plan Roth dollars.

To start the process of transferring retirement dollars, Login to our Transfer tool at app.rocketdollar.com/login.

You will input the name of your provider,  confirm that it is the right type of account to avoid tax implications if it is a partial or whole transfer, how much you wish to transfer on a partial transfer, and you will upload a recent financial statement.

A recent financial statement is essential. This document, along with your signed paperwork, is how we verify your transfer request with your "losing" IRA custodian who will send us your dollars.

If we can, our system will do as much of the transfer process electronically. Some providers we might need you to call to approve it.

If your old plan is a 401(k), then please send a most recent statement of your 401(k) by emailing our support team. You can check our support email by logging in at app.rocketdollar.com/login.

Please include

  • name of your provider
  • confirm that it is the right type of account to avoid tax implications if it is a partial or whole transfer, how much you wish to transfer on a partial transfer, and you will upload a recent financial statement.
